The Right Alexandria Lawyer
Here’s the funny thing about lawyers – they’re everywhere. But does anyone have any idea just how hard it is to find the right one?
First off, there are numerous factors to consider – niche, location, experience, personality, education, even the particular case in question (regardless of niche). They all play a role in a person’s decision to hire an attorney.
I can’t even go into detail on the kind of niches there are and knowing where the particular case falls under – is it a divorce petition, copyright claim, tax issue, malpractice lawsuit, probate hearing? There are numerous other possibilities that can fall under the legal field.
Particularly in this case, how does one find a skilled enough lawyer in the city of Alexandria, Virginia? Does one need to look in the phone book? Online? Where in the phone book or online? How does one pick an Alexandria lawyer? Based on what, experience? Education? All of the above?
That does sound like a lot of work. It’s almost as if a client would need to be a flat-out employer going through hundreds of applications just to hire the right Alexandria lawyer for the job.
But, quite frankly….
It’s Not That Hard to Find the Right Alexandria Lawyer
Well, not usually. Sometimes it can be a pain. But this can at least help out a great deal, especially when a client realizes that he or she has landed the best Alexandria lawyer in the game as a result of following the appropriate steps. This is all a client needs to do in order to land the right Alexandria lawyer possible:
• A Client Will Have to Be Completely Thorough in Their Research
• A Client Must Also Schedule All Free Consultations (Even If They Don’t Seem Necessary)
• And the Final Decision
Now it looks easy. And Lord knows if anyone didn’t have steps to follow at all, it might be chaos about where to start, what to look for, and where to end up. This at least sets you up. But just to warn any prospective client: it’s not as easy as it looks.
It will be a painstaking process; there may be challenges; sometimes there may be letdowns. But the bottom line is the end result will, for sure, be the hiring of the best attorney out of a list of Alexandria lawyers.
So let’s start with the first step:
The Research
Clearly Alexandria lawyers litter every cyberspace highway and page in the city phone book, so the research can’t be too hard. Here’s the problem:
Doing the research right.
It’s not as simple as opening up the Yellow Pages and picking out a few numbers. A client’s research for Alexandria lawyers will go a lot farther than that.
For starters, yes, a client may start with the phone book – but don’t just look up any numbers. Pay close to attention to the Alexandria lawyers with ads that have the basic information:
• Full Name of Office or Firm
• Valid Phone Number
• E-Mail Address
• Web Site URL
• Location
Technically, all that’s necessary is two pieces of information – the phone number and location. The rest are all bonuses.
But the reason why a client needs only this out of the phone book is that anything else lends to some inexperience in the field. Alexandria lawyers that feel the need to put out ads with tons of capital letters, exclamation points, and language that ‘sells’ will probably not get that many clients; because in the long run, they won’t build a good track record at all.
Knowing this, when checking through the phone book, a client’s going to want to keep in mind the fact that a good “shortlist” of Alexandria lawyers will be about five or six listings of phone numbers and addresses. And that’s it.
But in case a client strikes out in the Yellow Pages and doesn’t find that many, the internet is a way to go to finish it all off, finding a few more hits and also additionally getting into the State Bar Association web site for the Alexandria lawyers already on the list to see if they’re actually licensed in the state.
Asking friends and family members may also help to top off the list and possibly land a relative who works as an attorney! The bottom line with that are two little words: family discount.
When all is said and done, a client can then move to step two….
The Free Consultation
Many Alexandria lawyers, if not all of them, will offer this. Any client should take it.
Even if a client’s got a good feeling about a particular attorney, scheduling that consultation is crucial not only to get a feel for the lawyer but to also explain the details of the case and see if the case is viable enough for that lawyer.
This is the ‘interview’ portion of the process. A client’s the ‘employer.’ The lawyer’s the prospect. Plain and simple.
Common questions include:
• How many years of experience do you have?
• How much do you charge?
• What KIND of rates and/or fees do you charge?
• Which law school did you graduate from?
And believe me, there’s a ton more to ask – clientele, number of cases won or lost, the kind of cases, even the gender of clients. They’re all important to know. No client should feel that there are too many questions to ask.
The more questions, the better. The better the idea if that Alexandria attorney fits the bill.
Then Comes the Final Decision
Once those five or six consultations have been completed, a client should have a business card for each lawyer. Never – not in a million years – should a client hire a lawyer on the spot near the end of any consultation.
This is decision time. As a client looks at each business card, it’s up to him or her to decide which one to call back. After hearing all the experience, the testimonials, the reviews, and just getting to talk in general with each attorney, it should be pretty simple to figure out which lawyer to hire.
The last step then is simple: choose. And you can have the best chance possible in receiving the best possible representation for your case in Alexandria, Virginia.
